As you might know, Chinese New Year began on January 31 and is now ending on February 14. I just wanted to take a moment to talk about the mouthwatering foods that are eaten during Chinese New Year. For starters, one of my personal favorite treats is tang yuan. It's sort of like a dumpling with a sweet filling. Another thing I love is the homemade fa gao. Fa gao is bread that can come in a variety of colors, brown, pink, and even green. Staying with the homemade theme, I am a huge fan of the sticky rice cake, known as nian gao. With all this food, I'm definitely counting down the days until the next Chinese New Year.

Do you have an interest in cooking? Well, I always have whether it being tacos or lamb chops. Every Thursday, I go to a cooking class called Cooking for Life. During this class, we made two kinds of pasta with two different sauce. The first pasts we made was orecchiette drizzled with pesto sauce. The ingredients in the pesto sauce were 4 cups of organic basil, 4 cloves of garlic, half a cup of pine nuts, 1 1/3 cups of olive oil, topped with 2 teaspoons of salt and one cup of grated Percorino cheese. As for the other dish of pasta, we used gnocchi accompanied with traditional tomato topping. The tomato sauce was made of 1 can of tomato puree, half a cup of fresh basil, 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, and 1 clove of finely chopped garlic. You can try these yummy recipes at home. Stay tune for next Thursday's post. Wow, it's really raining cats and dogs. Careful, don't step on the poodle! Come back next Monday to find another pun!
What do you get when you add seafood pancakes with broccoli and shrimp? You get Chopsticks, the Chinese restaurant with mouth watering delicacies. This restaurant serves food that will more than satisfy your belly. My personal favorite dish is the seafood pancake. First of all, its not really a pancake, its more of an omelette with clams, vegetables, and more. This amazing restaurant also serves steamed fish with a crispy skin and not to mention food at great prices. If you ever visit Oakland, Chopsticks is the best place to go.
If you ever want to grab something to eat, a pastry, cookie, or pizza, Market Hall Bakery is the place to go. With homemade tarts, moist cakes, and cheesy pizzas, it's hard not to pay a visit to this European bakery in Rockridge. I recommend the cupcakes, I'm a red velvet fanatic, and the chewy chocolate chip cookies. Staying with the cookie theme, the chocolate mint crinkle and almond meringue cookies are also packed with flavor. One bite and it's a party in your mouth. As a dessert person, the apple pecan coffee cake is to die for. A fruity, nutty crumble on top with coffee cake on the bottom leaves you wanting another slice. If I were to give Market Hall a rating, I would give it 4.8 out of 5 stars.
There's nothing better than going to a farmer's market on Sundays. With delicious food and awesome entertainment, the farmer's market is a great place for family fun. Plus, farmers market is helping the environment by selling local, organic, and not to mention, fresh food. Oh no! It's the cute wolverine with her honey claws. You can buy your own honey sticks for one for one, two for one, or three for one. (I recommend the three for one.) There's rainbow honey sticks with flavors that include blue raspberry, sour apple, and pina colada. |
