Happy crab season! To celebrate this amazing seafood season, we went to PPQ Dungess Island. We ordered crab as part of the dinner for two combo. Since we had four people, we ordered fried rice and sea bass in addition to this combo. The dinner for two combo started off with imperial rolls, fried egg rolls with veggies inside. They were super yummy and crunchy and even came with a salad on the side to make you feel better about eating something fried :P Then for the main dish, we selected the garlic roasted crab. I definitely recommended this flavor. Garlic and crab are delicious best friends. As for the shiitake sea bass, it was super tender and had a mouthwatering soy sauce based sauce. I could not get enough of that sauce. To go with the seafood, we had garlic noodles and fried rice, and they were enjoyable. And to finish the crab feast off, the combo included fried banana with ice cream. I don't eat this dessert enough and I really should. This is a dish of juxaposition. The hot with the cold. The crunchy with the creamy. These contrasts make the dish unforgettable. Mmm what a way to end the meal.

Ba Fang is a very popular dumpling and potsticker restaurant in Taiwan and after eating there, I can see why. Their potstickers are uniquely shaped like logs. I had never seen potstickers shaped like that before. The log shape made sure all edges got crispy. It's pretty brilliant. You get the crunch and then the yummy flavorful filling. To contrast the crispy potstickers, we also ordered dumplings. Their dumplings have a chewy and doughy outside and succulent inside. Every bite is a flavor explosion in your mouth. You'll be eating one, two, three, and then the whole plate :P And if you want something more filling, their peanut sauce noodles are delicious. I mean peanut butter and noodles? That sounds like a winning combo. From noodles to dumplings, Ba Fang will provide you with yummy fuel to satisfy your cravings. We couldn't decide between sushi or burritos, so we compromised and got sushirittos! Honestly this food hybrid is so smart and delicious. We ordered the rainbow roll and slam salmon roll. The rainbow roll had yellowtail tuna and salmon sashimi. There were lot of veggies but not a lot of fish. I really liked the spicy mayo slathered in the rainbow roll. As for the salmon roll, it didn't have the spicy mayo, which was disappointing because the mayo is amazing. Overall, my meal at Rocket Roll was alright. Their fish portions are really small, but their spicy mayo is pretty good. Taiwan is known for their popcorn chicken, little bite sized pieces of fried chicken and Hot Star is taking this concept and making it huuuuge. Their XXL fried chicken is not an exaggeration. It's as big as my face! The exterior is crunchy, fried perfection. The breading is thick, so it's able to keep the chicken inside juicy and succulent. This immense piece of chicken can feed a family but it's so yummy you may not want to share ;P So now I'm absolutely obsessed with Burmese food. Where has this been all my life? Burma Superstar's garlic noodles are the bomb.com. They have the perfect garlic flavor without it being over powering, and the noodles have a wonderful texture. I wish I could slurp them all day. Another dish we ordered was the mango chicken with coconut. This tropical flavor profile is amazingly genius. I enjoyed combining the chicken with the garlic noodles. A dish with a different, but still delicious flavor profile is the eggplant and shrimp in garlic sauce. Eggplants and shrimps are already delicious by themselves, but with the garlic sauce? 10000x even more mouth watering. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any dish at Burma Superstar, just go there! Dragon Gate is one of my family's favorite Taiwanese restaurants and we go there as often as we can. One thing we always have to order is the fried chicken cutlet lunch box. Taiwanese lunches are very similar to Japanese bento boxes, they both have a little of everything. The chicken lunch came with rice, broccoli, cabbage, and the star of the show, the actual chicken itself. The chicken is so succulent and has a crispy coating. Another way to get your chicken fixing is the fried chicken noodle soup. I recommend asking for the chicken on the side as opposed to in the soup so the chicken doesn't get soggy. The last chicken dish I enjoy is the 3 cup chicken. This dish is a traditional dish made with one cup each of soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, and sugar. It is deeelicous. The one thing is that the chicken is scrap bits of chicken, so you need to watch out for bones. Branching away from chicken, I recently discovered their fried smelt and it is outstanding. The smelt is replete with tiny fish eggs inside and I enjoy it a lot. As for tofu dishes, their brown sweet tofu is the bomb. The tofu is really silky and the sauce is drool-worthy. This dish always comes up bubbling and alive. I have to restrain myself from diving in, so I don't burn my tongue. The aroma of it is just intoxicating. Allow me to give you a warning: Dragon Gate is a gateway restaurant into becoming a Taiwanese food addict.
Koi Palace is one of my all time favorite dim sum places. They have an abundance of choices, and all of their dishes are delicious. Their oven roasted duck is heavenly. I know I can always enjoy any Asian restaurant's duck. The duck is tender with a contrasting crispy skin on the outside. This makes it the perfect bite. Another popular item is the BBQ pork buns. These are equally amazing. The outside is sugary and crunchy, similar to a pineapple bun. Once you bite inside, sweet porkiness spills out. Mmm I'm drooling just writing about it. Also, since we were at a dim sum place, we just had to order the shui mai. I'm pretty sure we always order this whenever we visit a dim sum restaurant, but hey, I'm not complaining. Shui mais are the perfect combo of pork and shrimp. Speaking of shrimp, if you like it as much as I do, definitely order the walnut prawns. This fried treat is smothered in sweet sauce and accompanied with honey covered walnuts. If you want to splurge, then make the right decision and order the walnut prawns. You won't regret it. If you don't like shrimp (umm what how??), then the fried milk is another great choice. I don't know how they do it, but the milk inside is so silky and amazing to eat. The last dish we ordered was the lamb buns. I really like pan fried buns like these because they have a great sear on the outside of the fluffy buns. You won't be disappointed when you eat at Koi Palace because everything is awesome!
1 whole hour. This is how long we waited for these drunken noodles from Liang's Thai Food, a food stand in downtown Denver. The stand is big enough to fit only one person in there. Therefore, he can only cook one dish at a time. The line was long and wait was agonizing. The final product was pretty good, but not worth the hour long wait. It was just your standard drunken noodles, nothing extraordinary about it. The only reason the lines are super long at Liang's is because the service is slow, not because the food is spectacular.
There was one type of food that we had not eaten in Colorado and that was Asian food. We found that Asian Bistro had an assortment of Asian food. They had sushi, Chinese food, bento boxes, and more. I checked in with Yelp and they gave us a free Vegas roll. It's a deep fried roll with salmon, cream cheese, and avocado. It was really good (probs cuz it was fried lol). It was a beef kind of night apparently becuase we ordered the Mongolian beef bento box and the beef with veggies. The beef with veggies had no flavor, but the Mongolian beef was enjoyable. On the vegetarian side, we ordered the veggie mushu. There was wayyyy too much soy sauce in it. It was good when I ate it, but after, my stomach hurt from all the sodium. Also, the mushu came with tortillas. Hmmm. The tortillas worked as a vessel to eat the mushu, but I was expecting the mushu pancakes. Asian Bistro has a lot of choices to satisfy your Asian food cravings, but in this case, it's quantity over quality.
