The thought of baked goods makes everyone happy, especially when they end up helping a local elementary school. This past month, the CIA decided to fundraise for Venetia Valley school supplies through bake sales. Thanks to the amazing staff at Marinwood Market, we were able to set up a booth on Sunday mornings. We sold a range of treats: green tea cupcakes, shortbread cookies, and brownies, which were the best seller. (make sure to follow @tl.citizensinaction on Instagram so you know when to stop by next time!) Lots of very kind people donated to us without purchasing anything, showing their support for our cause.
After just two bake sales, we had enough donations to buy wobble stools and pencil sharpeners for Ms. Castro’s second grade class at Venetia Valley. We wanted to deliver these gifts in person to see their reactions. The kids greeted us with handmade cards and thank you’s, and then raced each other to get a chance on the wobble stools. It was one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. They addressed me as Miss Angela, which was honestly more polite than most people I know. Ms. Castro then invited us to stay, and together we sang songs on the guitar. On the way out, they thanked us again.
Venetia Valley is home to the sweetest children ever and this experience has made our organization even more motivated to help the community.
