So there's this somewhat new restaurant in San Rafael called Uchiwa Ramen. We just had to try it. I looked over the menu and the shoyu caught my attention. This is a savory soy broth over a bowl of ramen and pork. I decided to order that. However, it was a disappointment. The soup was very bland and tasted like nothing at all. The other ramen bowl that was ordered in my family was the tonkotsu. This is a rich creamy broth. This bowl lived up to its expectation. I was able to steal some of the tonkotsu ramen bowl because I didn't like mine. :P In addition, we ordered two side dishes. The first dish was the chili garlic pork wings and wow, were they tender. I enjoyed every bite of them. Also, we ordered the chicken yakitori. It was alright I guess. To conclude, this visit to Uchiwa Ramen was pretty average, but I definitely recommend the tonkotsu. :)

This restaurant is as unique as a snowflake. So of course it's called Snowflake. Snowflake is an Asian fusion restaurant with awesome food. First off, the baked pasta with meat sauce was absolutely excellent. The sauce was wonderfully flavored and the cheese on top was like the cherry on top... errr... Another dish you have to try is the mixed grill. This is a sizzling hot plate with a variation of meat from sausages to pork. This dish also comes with some delicious sauce, noodles, and some vegetables (so you don't feel that bad after eating all that meat :P). The only thing that disappointed me was the spare pork ribs with black beans. It seriously took forever. I mean, the flavoring of the dish was alright but my dish literally came when the dessert arrived. :( Speaking of dessert, we ordered the mango shaved ice. Luckily, my family saved some for me (since I was beginning my main course when the shaved ice arrived) because it did not disappoint. The flavor and the fun toppings were on point (sorry, if you hate that phrase...). To sum it up, just go to Snowflake and see for yourself that it's truly a great restaurant. Great China is yet another fabulous Chinese restaurant. First of, let's talk about their duck. It's heavenly. The meat is so very tender and the skin is crispy. Great China provides this wrap like thingie for you to wrap(really you dont say...) your duck in and eat it. Moving onto some other dishes, I thought the wok braised lamb was also very good. In addition to that, what's a meal without vegetables? (I'm totally just kidding but we do need to eat veggies to be healthy sooo...) We ordered the string beans and it was seasoned nicely. Also, the sweet and sour pork tasted good but nothing too exceptional. The crab meat wasn't the best either... All in all, Great China is an awesome place for Chinese food (Especially the duck... You just have to try the duck...). As you guys probably know, my ethnic background in Chinese and that means going to a whole lot of Chinese restaurants. That being said, I visited Fusion House and found out that they are a great representation of Chinese food. To start off, a great dish during flu season is the beef noodle soup. It's totally warm and tasty. I slurped the noodles and soup right up! And I don't know about you but when I'm sick, I will eat/drink anything that will warm me up. Also, I thought the beef wrap roll was extraordinary. With tender beef and a crunchy, fried outside, this dish is probably the best of Fusion House. A close second would be the Taiwanese sausage rice. This is basically fried rice with delicious little slices of sausage. To wrap it up, Fusion House serves amazing Chinese food, great for those hungry people put there.
If you're ever in Emeryville, shopping at Ikea or places like that, and you get hungry, go to PF Chang's. PF Chang's is your typical Chinese restaurant. However, something above average is their fried rice. A fried rice dish really stood out and that was the Mongolian beef with fried rice. The sauce on the beef was salty, so I suggest a lot of rice to a piece of meat. The flavor is still there though. This dish came with a soup. I chose the wonderful wonton soup. Not only were there wontons, but also mushrooms and spinach. Also, if you have kids, they can order the kid's chicken. They can choose the sauce(like sweet and sour) that fits their taste buds. To wrap it up, PF Chang's is an excellent restaurant that represents good Chinese food. One of the best thing about an Asian heritage is the food that restaurants like Shao Mountain serves. First of all, I absolutely love the the sauteed beef and seafood with crispy rice. The crispy rice gives the dish a great texture. Once dipped in the soup, the crispy rice becomes soggy but in a good way. In addition to that, the fried tofu with chili sauce in a clay pot is marvelous. The tofu has an amazing flavor infused in it and it is not too spicy despite the chili part of the chili sauce. However, the braised pork slices with preserve vegetables is not that enjoyable. There is something weird about it. That dish is the only bad thing about Shao Mountain. Let's talk about another wonderful dish, shall we? The lamb soup is great for those cold days. The Chinese herb soup with tender lamb and vegetables is just the best. To conclude, Shao Mountain is yet another wonderful Chinese themed restaurant that distributes fab food.
What if I told you that I discovered a Korean American fusion themed restaurant that also served good food? Yeah, it might be hard to believe but I have and it goes by the name of Crunch. To start with, I thought the chicken cutlet was awesome. There was a lot of chicken piece and the sauce was fab. However, the chicken was just slathered in that sauce, so I had to scrape some off. Plus, there's the seafood fried noodles. It was pretty good but nothing too special about it. Lastly, the chicken bibimbap seems like it's a customer favorite. There's chicken, carrots, cucumber, beets, and much more. I'm pretty sure you can find something new in there with each bite and that's not a bad thing. So, if you went down to Berkeley just to eat at Crunch, I wouldn't blame you.
Kamza is a fabulous place who serves sushi with good prices. It should be renamed Ka-ching! Anyway, I guess we could start with sushi. We didn't order just one roll of sushi, we got two(cuz we're that cool...). The unagi with avocado roll is awesome for avocado lovers. However, I liked the caterpillar roll a little better than the unagi with avocado roll. The unagi in the caterpillar rolls just had more flavor and shone a little brighter. Secondly, what's a Japanese meal without a bento box? You ought to try the salmon and fried chicken bento box. The salmon was drenched in teriyaki sauce, which for me, is the best thing ever! Plus, the fried chicken was amazing. Even though fried chicken is full American, Kamza did a marvelous job. With fall already here and bringing cold winds and much needed rain, udon is an essential dish. The noodles were very "QQ" and cooked well. Also, it was thoughtful of Kamza to put in other vegetables and other food to go with the noodles. To wrap it up, Kamza is an inviting restaurant that just received 3.6 stars from me. |
