In Taiwan, one would expect amazing Asian food. That's a given. But cultures spread from one country to another, Taiwan now also has a whole assortment of international food, like this restaurant. Though you don't typically find Italian food in Taiwan, I'm sure glad I did because Bite 2 Eat sure is cooking Italian cuisine well. To start off, we tried a savory and sweet pizza for appetizers. For the savory, the BBQ chicken was a great choice. The combo of white sauce and barbecue sauce was a party in my mouth. As for the sweet pizza, we tried the sweet apple and cream cheese. This was really exciting because I had never tried sweet pizza. After one bite, I was in love. Where was this all my life? This pizza was the perfect combo of ooey gooey cheese, sweet cream cheese, and crisp apples. Plus the fact that all of that was on top of a pizza base makes it even better. If their pizzas were that delicious, I couldn't wait for our main courses. I ordered their seafood risotto and it was so creamy, amazing, and had an abundance of seafood. I savored every grain of it. Another risotto dish I recommend is the chicken pesto risotto. First of all, I didn't know you could have pesto risotto but I'm glad someone experimented with that combination. The risotto was very fragrant and the chicken that topped it all off was super succulent. Some other amazing dishes are the salmon and seafood linguine. And for dessert, their luscious creme brulee and fluffy tiramisu are musts. As shown from all these mouthwatering dishes, these Taiwanese chefs know how to cook Italian food!

I decided to check this place out because they have super long lines and great reviews. I tried the acclaimed katsu curry. It had a nice crunchy breading with tender pork inside. Their curry had good flavor and spice. To eat this dish, you gotta eat a little of everything in a bite. You get a little katsu soaked in curry with a scoop of rice. The pickles cut through the richness and add nice freshness. Though this dish was good, it didn't live up to the expectation I had of it. I honestly would not wait in a long line for this again.
Happy crab season! To celebrate this amazing seafood season, we went to PPQ Dungess Island. We ordered crab as part of the dinner for two combo. Since we had four people, we ordered fried rice and sea bass in addition to this combo. The dinner for two combo started off with imperial rolls, fried egg rolls with veggies inside. They were super yummy and crunchy and even came with a salad on the side to make you feel better about eating something fried :P Then for the main dish, we selected the garlic roasted crab. I definitely recommended this flavor. Garlic and crab are delicious best friends. As for the shiitake sea bass, it was super tender and had a mouthwatering soy sauce based sauce. I could not get enough of that sauce. To go with the seafood, we had garlic noodles and fried rice, and they were enjoyable. And to finish the crab feast off, the combo included fried banana with ice cream. I don't eat this dessert enough and I really should. This is a dish of juxaposition. The hot with the cold. The crunchy with the creamy. These contrasts make the dish unforgettable. Mmm what a way to end the meal.
Ba Fang is a very popular dumpling and potsticker restaurant in Taiwan and after eating there, I can see why. Their potstickers are uniquely shaped like logs. I had never seen potstickers shaped like that before. The log shape made sure all edges got crispy. It's pretty brilliant. You get the crunch and then the yummy flavorful filling. To contrast the crispy potstickers, we also ordered dumplings. Their dumplings have a chewy and doughy outside and succulent inside. Every bite is a flavor explosion in your mouth. You'll be eating one, two, three, and then the whole plate :P And if you want something more filling, their peanut sauce noodles are delicious. I mean peanut butter and noodles? That sounds like a winning combo. From noodles to dumplings, Ba Fang will provide you with yummy fuel to satisfy your cravings. We couldn't decide between sushi or burritos, so we compromised and got sushirittos! Honestly this food hybrid is so smart and delicious. We ordered the rainbow roll and slam salmon roll. The rainbow roll had yellowtail tuna and salmon sashimi. There were lot of veggies but not a lot of fish. I really liked the spicy mayo slathered in the rainbow roll. As for the salmon roll, it didn't have the spicy mayo, which was disappointing because the mayo is amazing. Overall, my meal at Rocket Roll was alright. Their fish portions are really small, but their spicy mayo is pretty good. If you walk into Taipei 101 and smell the amazing aroma of croissants, follow your nose and that will lead you to Hazukido. Everything is freshly baked, I actually saw the workers pull hot croissants straight out of the oven. They have an assortment of flavors and we tried most of them. Here are the highlights: 1.) Sesame- A unique and delicious one. I had never heard of this kind of flavor in a croissant, but it worked really well. I definitely recommend this one.
2.) Original- sometimes the original is the way to go. It has layers of flaky, buttery goodness. 3.) Fish roe- this is a savory, acquired taste. If you like salty and sweet, try this one. It's a flavor party in your mouth. 4.) Raspberry-sweet, fruit, and covered in raspberry glaze. Who could say no to that? Honestly, you could probably be content with any type of croissant. They all are amazing. With tons of yummy flavors, Hazukido is handmaking scrumptious croissants that fuse the flavors of France and Taiwan. I've always wanted to go to London to try afternoon tea, but if you don't wanna pay for a plane ticket, just head on down to Crown and Crumpets in San Francisco. This is a super duper cute shop with all the tea shop vibes. We ordered afternoon tea for one. Don't be fooled by the name, it has a huge selection that can feed a family. There were yummy cookies, sandwiches, a scone, and a crumpet. I'd never tried a crumpet before and it was pretty good. Now afternoon tea isn't just the treats, it's the tea as well. We ordered the blue eyes tea with hibiscus, orange, and apple. If you want a more filling dish, the bacon, apple, and brie sandwich is delicious. Apple and brie are the classic combination and adding bacon on that just increases the yumminess. Their chickn pot pie is another must. The bowl is full of creamy chicken and veggies and topped with flaky, buttery puff pastry. Afternoon tea is on the pricier side, but every now and then you have to indulge yourself, and Crown and Crumpet is the place to go! So many people and websites recommended Addiction Aquatic Development for magnificent seafood, so we just had to check it out. First off, this market is huuuuge. It's like a department store for seafood. We first walked into a room full of tanks with live seafood. That's how you know it's fresh. It then connects to another marketplace where you can buy sushi, noodles, drinks, and more. There were also many restaurants surrounding this seafood market as well. The food choices were endless. We decided to buy all our food from the marketplace and hunting for a place to eat in the marketplace instead of the restaurants. We bought sushi rolls, sashimi, fried rice, fried fish, shrimp, and clams. AAD's sashimi pieces are enormous and super tasty. Everything here is larger and more affordable than America hehe. The highlight of the meal was the uni, or sea urchin. I've had this in America, but nothing compares to Taiwan's uni. It was an explosion of sweet, unami, and tasted like the ocean. This uni was amazingly delicious. You definitely have to try this, but if sea urchin isn't your thing, don't worry. Addiction Aquatic Development has a multitude of seafood. It made me change my diet to seafood- when I sea food from AAD, I eat it :)
(PS- I'm going to be alternating between Taiwan and California food posts to switch it up every now and then :) ) Taiwan is known for their popcorn chicken, little bite sized pieces of fried chicken and Hot Star is taking this concept and making it huuuuge. Their XXL fried chicken is not an exaggeration. It's as big as my face! The exterior is crunchy, fried perfection. The breading is thick, so it's able to keep the chicken inside juicy and succulent. This immense piece of chicken can feed a family but it's so yummy you may not want to share ;P Most of the people at the Taipei Train Station is not even there for a train ride. They're there for the food. Taipei Train Station has tons of delicious restaurants ranging from tepanyaki to noodles. One eatery that everyone is lining up for though is Uncle Tetsu's Japanese cheesecake. First of all, you can see them making it right on the spot. It's guaranteed fresh and it adds a lot to it's incredible flavor. Now, forget everything you know about cheesecake because this is unlike any that I've every had before. It's a souffle cheesecake, light and airy, in contrast to dense New York cheesecake. Every bite of this souffle cheesecake melted in my mouth and left me wanting more. It's an extraordinary thing, this cheesecake, so don't miss it. Just follow the smell of freshly baked cheesecake.
